+ + + + +  Information About Lon's Vital Health Concepts   + + + + +

The founder and president of ABC's of Health, Inc., Lonnie Willoughby (pronounced Will-o-be), has developed a practical balanced approach to achieving a healthy living lifestyle in a cost-effective economical manner. Lon was born in June, 1936, and he still enjoys good health with no aches or pains, and he takes no prescription drugs. His vital health statistics look like a healthy 30-year old although Lon had developed some very serious health problems while in his late twenties.  After going to medical doctors for many years and getting progressively worse throughout those years, Lon eventually gave up on getting help from medical doctors.  He then decided to study natural holistic health-care books in an effort to try to understand why his health had deteriorated so much since he graduated from high school, left the farm in North Carolina, and went off to college, and then lived in the typical city environment where he had worked for many years.

Lon's holistic health-care studies began in the early 1970's.  His high school and college level science  courses (biology, chemistry, and physics) and his technical career science training with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) enabled him to study complex health-care issues in a systematic scientific manner. After reading numerous books about natural health-care concepts and protocols, Lon gradually learned how to take charge of his own health-care and focus his efforts on developing a much healthier lifestyle.

Over a period of many years, he developed a much better understanding of how the human body functions - stomach digestion, intestinal system, bowel health, digestive enzymes, probiotics, liver functions, kidney functions, lungs - oxygen and carbon dioxide transport, adrenal glands, endocrine glands, blood functions, lymph system functions, energy production in body cells, brain chemistry - neurotransmitter chemicals, vitamins, minerals, essential fatty acids, etc.  His ongoing health-care studies enabled him to make major improvements in his lifestyle and his very sick body gradually began to function better.  It was clear that he was going in the right directions with his health-care improvements because it was easy to see and feel the improvements that were occuring in his body.

During his high school education and college level education, Lon was taught that sugar is an energy food. He was athletic in high school, playing baseball and football, and he ran track in college (his small high school did not offer track as an athletic option). Consequently, during those athletic years, Lon wanted to have lots of energy, and he did what he had been taught - he consumed a lot of sugar in drinks and sweet foods to help him have "lots of energy."  Unfortunately, Lon was more than forty years of age before he learned that excessive amounts of sugar can cause serious damage to important body functions in several ways. At that age, his typical "American city lifestyle" had already damaged his health considerably.  It took many years of health-care study for Lon to learn how to help his body overcome a lot of the damage that had been done.

Ongoing holistic health-care studies enabled Lon to eventually learn that he had been eating too many sweets (cake, cookies, candy, jam, jelly, pie, sugar in coffee, tea, soft drinks, etc.) and had been eating too many of the wrong foods, cooked the wrong way (meats - pan fried, deep-fat fried, grilled - open-flame cooked)  Lon really liked the taste of charcoal grilled meats and he ate them frequently for many years.  He was about 50 years of age when he learned that all open-flame cooked foods are very toxic - due to multiple toxic gases sticking to the greasy grilled meats.  Lon learned that any foods cooked over an open-flame are toxic; they introduce an excessive number of free-radicals into the body and that speeds up the aging process and can likely contribute to several very serious disease conditions.

Lon eventually discovered that drinking his favorite carbonated beverages daily had been contributing to his excessive sugar consumption (10 to 14 tsp per bottle).  He studied pH balance in the human body and discovered that all carbonated beverages have some form of acidic chemical added to enable the carbonation process to work properly (usually a citric acid or phosphoric acid).  Unfortunately, this causes the pH of the beverage to be very acidic (2.5 - 4.0 pH range is typical), and drinking carbonated beverages routinely can contribute to severe pH imbalance in body fluids.

The acidic drinks (all carbonated beverages, coffee, tea, etc.) and eating foods that leave an acidic residue in the body (primarily flesh foods and foods from grains - high in phophorous - an acidic mineral) had been causing pH imbalance problems in Lon's body for many years.  Sadly, those conditions contributed to serious bone depletion becauses the autonomic system was forced to steal calcium, magnesium, and other alkalizing minerals from bones and other areas of the body and put those minerals into the blood plazma to quickly bring the blood pH level back to the proper level.  Each time that Lon ate flesh foods or grain foods, drank carbonated drinks, coffee or tea, or consumed sugar, his body fluid pH level would be forced to become more acidic, causing numerous problems in his body.

It is important to note here that no one in the medical profession had ever warned Lon about any of those potential problems.  In fact, over a period of about ten years, no medical doctor that Lon consulted had ever asked him any questions about his food and/or liquid intake.

Unfortunately, substantial pH imbalance in body fluids can contribute to poor hydration of billions of body cells daily.  This condition can also cause a deficiency of oxygen transport to all body cells (vital organs, muscle tissue, brain, bones, etc.).  Lon's chronic pH imbalance conditions had also contributed to substantial bone deterioration due to loss of calcium and magnesium (alkalizing minerals) over a period of many years.  Lon eventually learned that his autonomic nervous system uses calcium and magnesium from bones whenever needed to help balance and maintain the blood plazma pH at the critical level that must be maintained to avoid the potential for a heart attack (pH of 7.40 + 0.05)

This situation is a major reason why many people have developed weak bones at a relatively young age - osteoporosis is very common in America.  Lon believes that is also a substantial cause of the high heart attack rate in America.  If blood pH decreases from 7.40 to just 7.35, it reduces the oxygen transport efficiencies of red blood cells.  Insufficient oxygen to the heart's muscle tissue, and that lack of oxygen can contribute to a heart attack.

Over a period of many years, Lon's ongoing health-care studies enabled him to eventually put the pieces of the very complex health puzzle together sufficiently to understand why his previously healthy body had deteriorated so much by the time he was forty years of age.  In essence, he learned that he had been on the common sad American diet (SAD) for many years. This is basically a 'junk food diet' (foods and beverages - cooked and process - little or no raw foods daily), and Lon did not understand that his common American lifestyle (the good life) was gradually causing severe damage to important body functions.

Looking back at that situation, it is important to observe that no one in the education systems had warned Lon about this situation.  No one in the medical profession had ever asked  him any questions about his diet or had given him any clue that his common American lifestyle (foods and beverages) might be a substantial contributing factor to the very serious health problems that had developed.  Consequently, Lon's health continued to get worse during the ten years that he consulted various medical doctors about his obviously deteriorating health.

Lon is a natural born American citizen who completed 12 years of public school education, and completed substantial training in the military (four years in the U.S. Air Force), and completed several years of college education, and also completed a lot of U.S. government sponsored technical training at the FAA Academy in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and other FAA training facilities. (FAA = Federal Aviation Administration).

How could it be possible that through all of that education (18+ years), no one had ever mentioned that a person should be careful in choosing foods to eat and beverages to drink because:

    1) the human body is very sensitive to the amount of sugar that gets into the blood system and

    2) pH considerations are vital health-care knowledge because the pH of body fluids can affect the vitality of many body functions and can also dramatically affect long-term health and wellbeing.

      3) food-combining is an important consideration when choosing what foods to combine in a meal.  Concentrated protein foods do not combine well with concentrated carbohydrates (will not digest properly).  Examples:  A meat sandwitch (with bread) is a bad combination, spagetti and meat sauce or meat balls is a bad combination, grits or rice or bread and eggs is a bad combination.   Chili (meat sauce and beans) is a much better combination.

Protein foods combine reasonably well with most vegetables (non-carbohydrates).  Carbohydrates and vegetables combine reasonably well in a meal.   Fruits should not be combined in the stomach with non-fruits - best to eat fruits on an empty stomach and allow two to three hours for digestion before eating other foods (that are properly combined).  Lie on right side to drain fruit residue from stomach before eating any other foods.  You can learn about this very important subject on the Internet - search for "food combining."

Throughout all of those years of Lon's education, no one had explained how the body responds to sugar consumption - sugar, desserts, fruits, and other foods that quickly convert into blood sugar [glucose] - such as white flour bread products, carrots, cereals, corn, pasta, potatoes, grits, rice, etc.  In all of Lon's 18 years of education, no one had explained how excessive glucose in the blood can cause severe stress for the body's glucose metabolism and stabilization functions, and this can substantially affect brain functions - alertness, sleepiness, anxiety levels, nervousness, depression, anger, frustration, low energy level, poor work performance, poor learning ability, poor memory and recall of stored information.

Excessive glucose in the blood system can also affect safety because too much glucose to the blood system can cause people to be more accident prone at work or home and while driving vehicles or operating other machinery.  This can occur  because the pancreas may be forced to produce too much insulin in the body's automatic effort to bring the glucose level down into the "normal range" and too much insulin can then cause the glucose level to go below normal.  That situation can substantially affect the person's performance capability, causing sleepiness, brain fog, slow reaction time, low energy, irratibility, paranoia.

A significantly diminished glucose level can cause a person to get sleepy while driving a vehicle or be accident prone while performing other tasks - cannot think clearly or react as quickly as would be "normal" for that person.  One can have diminished mental and emotional capabilities until the glucose level in the blood returns to the normal range (anger, frustration, irritability, lack of patience, etc.).  Think for a moment about all the people who get sleepy after eating too much food at a Thanksgiving day meal, or any other big meal - blood sugar (glucose) level may go too high.  The pancreas then reacts to produce sufficient insulin to help metabolize the excess glucose; however, if the glucose level gradually goes too low (30 minutes to 3 hours or so), the low blood sugar condition can then cause the person to become sleepy.

Those frustrating conditions used to happen to Lon one or more times a day for many years and they got progressively worse (more severe) as the years went by.  Lon had no idea what was causing his mental and emotional impairment on a recurring basis, and none of the doctors that he consulted offered any information about what might be causing these disturbing and dangerous conditions.   It took years for Lon to learn that he had a condition known as hypoglycemia (substantial changes in blood sugar levels dramatically affecting one's performance capabilities).  It then took many more years for Lon to learn how to get his health back to normal because he could not find anyone in the medical field who could help him understand how to cope with his confusing health condition.

Looking back at those many years of suffering daily with progressively worsening health problems, from his present vantage point of advanced natural holistic health-care knowledge, Lon is appalled and dismayed that the American education systems are so grossly inadequate in helping students understand the basic vital health-care concepts related above.  It is clear to Lon that everyone needs to understand these essential health-care concepts at a basic practical level. However, Lon's extensive education experiences proved conclusively that these vital nutrition concepts are usually ignored, as if it really doesn't matter much what a student eats or drinks or how it is cooked.

It appears that most people do not understand that it is important to select foods that will combine well with each other (digest well when mixed together in a meal).  It is also important to consider the types of liquids that are put in the stomach, and their temperature ( room-temperature, warm, hot, cold), and it is important to control the quantity of liquids put in the stomach while it is trying to accomplish its digestive actions.

The truth is, all of these factors are important.  They matter because they can make a huge difference in how a student or an adult is able to function and perform over the period of one day or one week or a month, and they can make a tremendous difference in a year.  Think about the super advantages for a lifetime.

Sadly, Lon's substantial experiences in the health-care field found that very few people understand the importance of these vital health-care concepts - not even medical doctors, nurses, school teachers (public and private), business owners and business managers, etc.   Consequently, among advanced countries, Americans are some of the sickest people on Planet Earth

Lon Willoughby used to be one of those sick people, but he is a healthy person now because he diligently studied the subject of holistic health-care knowledge for many years and thereby learned about these vital health-care concepts and others.  That knowledge eventually enabled him to help his body systems restore their natural health status.

Please take a moment to consider what business entities profit from massive public ignorance about these vital health-care concepts - fast food and junk food producers, the sugar industry, the medical profession in general, the pharmaceutical industry in general, health insurance companies, and many other 'health-care' related businesses.  Perhaps those 'monetary considerations' are a substantial factor in why there is such a widespread deficiency in our education systems about teaching students the vital health-care concepts related briefly above.

Could those powerful economic (and political) interests affect how text books are written regarding health-care issues?  Could those same economic interests influence what information our medical school students, nursing school students, and other college level students are taught about  health-care nutrition concepts? Or conversely, did this widespread ignorance about vital health-care concepts just accidentally happen and accidentally continue to exist for so many years in our public schools and colleges - in spite of our continuing advancements in knowledge about such important natural health-care issues?

Lon believes the vital health-care concepts discussed briefly above should be taught to all students in America (in grammar school classes and again in higher level classes).   He understands that students need to learn how to make wise selections of foods and beverages (at each meal or snack).  See guidelines below.

   1.  Avoid consuming items that will likely produce excessive glucose in the blood system (for the reasons mentioned above), and

   2.  Avoid consuming an excessive amount of foods and beverages that produce acidic residue because this will likely cause a pH imbalance in the blood and other body fluids.  (Flesh foods and grains are prominent acid residue causing products)  A pH imbalance condition will likely force the body to confiscate vital minerals from the bones and tissue and quickly use those minerals to restore the proper pH level in the blood (will improve oxygen transport efficiency and thereby help avoid a heart attack due to insufficient oxygen to heart tissue cells). Vital minerals that might be confiscated to help balance the pH of the blood are: calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium (these are the main alkalizing minerals).

   3.  Avoid all foods cooked over an open-flame - charcoal grill, gas grill, wood-fired grills and ovens (breads).

   4.  Avoid all foods cooked or heated (warmed or thawed) in a micro-wave oven.  Lon understands that powerful microwave energy will probably be detrimental to the natural molecular structure of the food.  May cause a lot of free-radicals to be generated within the food - that is not good for long-term health.

   5.  Chew foods slowly and thoroughly before swallowing - take small bites to avoid involuntarily swallowing food that was not chewed adequately.

   6.  Avoid cold beverages when food needs to be digested - cold temperature interferes with digestion.  The body naturally sends more blood to the stomach during digestion process to raised the temperature to about 103 - 104 degrees farenheit to facilitate the digestion of food.  Cold beverages, ice creme, and other cold foods (from the refrigerator) substantially interfere with the normal digestion process.

   7.  Do not drink more than six to eight ounces of liquids with meals and within first hour after eating (preferably warm liquids, but not hot liquids - can damage enzymes).  Excessive liquids dilute enzymes in the stomach, making them weak and greatly reduces their ability to digest the food adequately.  However, it is important to drink at least 4 to 6 ounces of water with meals - helps with the normal digestion process, particularly important to sip liquids along with the eating of dry or semi-dry foods.

Eating dry foods without simultaneously drinking liquids (preferable purified water) can cause constipation for many people.  The colon extracts liquid from the feces as a normal process.  If one eats dry foods without also drinking (sipping) water between bites, the colon may extract too much liquid from the feces because it appears that the body is in danger of dehydration.  That situation can cause one to become constipated instantly, before all of the dry food has been eaten.

   8.  Learn the fundamental concepts of food combining.  Do an Internet search for "food combining" to get additional information about this exceptionally important health concept.

All people need to understand the vital health-concepts shown above.  They also need to have a  basic understanding of the importance of pH balance in the body and learn how to help the body maintain the proper pH levels in all body fluids. Students that are taught these vital health concepts will have a tremendous advantage throughout their life that is worth more than all the money on the planet.  Please think about the advantages in life that will come to you by simply learning how to apply these vital health concepts in your lifestyle on a daily basis - fantastic and incredible!

Taking Control of Your Health

Lon understands that it is very important for people to learn how to take control of their own health, and he encourages people to begin this exciting and exceptionally rewarding lifelong venture as soon as possible.  In order to help many people learn about his ABC's of Health concepts, Lon started a health store and health education business in 1998 so he could introduce customers to some of these exceptionally important healthy lifestyle concepts

He eventually developed this special knowledge into a health-care science that involves several  important health parameters. Lon shares some of these health concepts with customers briefly on an 'as needed' basis where the customer's time schedule and Lon's time schedule permit; however, it takes several hours for him to share most of his vital health-care concepts with a person in an organized manner that is easy to understand.  Consequently, Lon offers health counseling sessions for clients to help them learn about several very important health-care concepts easily and quickly (one to six hours of Lon's time) - depending upon their ability and willingness to learn and their willingness to pay for this valuable training.

Due to substantial overhead expenses (several thousand dollars per month) to operate his health store, Lon must charge reasonable fees for his health-care counseling sessions.  He has dedicated many years of his life to increasing his knowledge about many important health-care issues; consequently, he must still earn sufficient money each month to pay his business expenses so he can keep his health store open and continue helping as many people as possible.

Lon's exceptionally valuable counseling services enable his serious-minded clients to get on the fast track to better health - they can learn how to obtain more energy, vitality, brainpower, and wellness quickly, in a cost-effective manner.  He helps these clients learn how to take charge of their health by sharing his extensive vital health-care concepts knowledge.  Lon's consultation clients are thereby enabled to quickly gain more control over many important body functions and processes that have likely been operating in a confused, disorganized, and poorly functioning manner - digestion deficiencies, inadequate elimination of waste, improper pH balance of body fluids, poor food combining at meal time, improper choices of cooking methods, improper consumption of fluids (water and beverages), inadequate vital nutrients in diet, inadequate enzymes of various types, inadequate beneficial flora - probiotics in the intestinal system, clogged up liver, clogged up kidneys, exhausted adrenal glands, too much stress in lifestyle, unhealthy negative thought patterns, poorly functioning immune system, inadequate personal body hygiene, and a number of other health conditions that prevent optimum health, energy, and vitality.

Chief Executive Officer of Your Body

Lon Willoughby developed the vital health concept that each adult is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of their very complex and delicate body system, and the value of each being is worth more than all of the money on Planet Earth.  Think about that statement for a few moments:  your mental and physical being cannot be replaced by spending any amount of money.  You are a very special being and you are unique in the universe.  So how important is it for you to learn how to take much better care of  your health?  When should you begin in earnest to improve your knowledge about vital health concepts and begin to use them in your daily life?

Ask yourself this question: How good am I as a body system manager?  Your ability to manage your complex body system will have a lot of effect on your health and vitality each day for the rest of your life.  Your health knowledge can have a lot of effect on how long you will be able to live in good health with vitality, free of pain and disease conditions.  You can obtain more information about this vital health concept by selecting the Super Foods link below and reading the special article that is provided therein titled Vital Health Concepts for You.
